abundant, eternal light

One of my favorite family traditions on Christmas Eve is to go look at Christmas lights.

My favorite light display -- Wyoming 2012

Light is such a beautiful thing.  Light of the sun, the moon, and the stars.  Man-made light falls short in comparison, but it is still beautiful too.  Spending time in a jungle with no electricity, has taught me two things:
  1.  How much I appreciate being able to flip a light switch
  2.  How absolutely stunning the light of God's creation is
A tiny light can break the darkness.  A tiny light can illuminate the night.  God's light is not tiny.

1 John 1:5b
God is light, in him there is no darkness, at all.

2 Corinthians 4:6
For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

This enormous, abundant, eternal light is given to us; as believers it shines in our hearts.  No moment, no obstacle, no darkness is bigger than that light within us, because it is God's.

It cannot be snuffed out.  It cannot be diminished.  It is because God is.

This Christmas Eve, may we be aware of the light God has given us.  May it illuminate our lives.  May it shine forth.  May it draw others closer to our Saviour.  May it point to our God.
