watering my soul

My foot slid on the dry road.  The gravel spread across the dusty surface, serving more as a hindrance than a help.  It's been dry for months.  The intermittent spots of rain that have come in the last few weeks have been too little, too random.  We need rain.

The grass is no longer a rich green, but is scattered with brown.  The gardens are dry.  Here in this land, where many people work their gardens to feed their families, we are desperate for rain.  It's been a long dry season.

The sky is mottled with smoke on a daily basis.  Some say the fires across the hills are to clear garden land, some say the smoke is to bring the rain.  Walking through a haze of smoke, struggling to breathe, I longed for a full breath of clean air.  I longed for water to come and quench the fires and the dust.

So here's my question.  Is my spiritual life dusty?  Is it dry and withering, with too little, too random "rain."

Rain pours across a dry land as a sweet balm that quenches the thirst of the earth.  God's Word pours across my soul as a sweet balm that quenches the thirst.  Am I watering my soul?  Or is it too little, too random?

That's my challenge to myself.  I pray that it's a challenge for you as well.

Isaiah 26:8b-9a
. . . we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.  My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you.

Isaiah 35:1-2a
The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.  Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.

P.S.  Would you pray for rain for this country?
