keep praying!

Someone asked me this week to explain the steps of this translation project.  This is the overview of what we have done for Luke:

First we read the text in multiple versions and languages.
Second we drafted the text into the target language.
Third we did a team check to compare our translation with the source text looking for accuracy and clarity.
* Lots of revisions *
Fourth we did a community check to ensure naturalness of the text.
* Lots of revisions *
Fifth we did a edit/revision of the chapters that had been drafted first and weren't as high a quality.
* Lots of revisions *
Sixth we did a consultant check to ensure both accuracy and clarity of the text.
* Lots of revisions *

After all of those steps, the text is complete.

our work table for the month

For the book of Luke it has taken 3.5 years of training, drafting, checking, editing, checking, revising, checking, and editing again to reach this week.

We have redone whole portions of the text that were either not clear, not accurate, or not natural.  Some verses and passages we have redone multiple times.  We have checked and rechecked and then checked again.

We have read these chapters again and again and again.  Words and phrases float through my brain as I'm trying to go to sleep, imprinted after hearing and saying them so many times.

In any given day we navigate four languages as we use the English, Tok Pisin, and Greek to check our translation in Tigak.

This is my last week to work with the team.  Our goal is close, in sight, glimmering on the horizon.

At the beginning of Tuesday, there are still 602 verses we need to complete the final revision for after the consultant checking.  We have five days remaining but it would be nice if we could finish on Friday instead of Saturday so the translators can travel home to their villages on Saturday.

We're taking this one day at a time, one verse at a time.

God has faithfully answered prayer to bring us to this point so close to the end.  I believe He will carry us through to the completion.  This has been a long month at the end of a long few years and we are tired.  But God has sustained us thus far and He is not tired.  I'm thankful for that promise.

Keep praying, friends!  He is faithful to hear our prayers and answer.
