through the clouds

We descended through a cloud tinged pink by the setting sun.
Wisps floated past in a tangible, textured haze;
The painted sky visible and then obscured.
White waves ringed the shoreline as the trees came closer, closer, closer.

Pink faded to pale yellow and gray as the lights of the town came into view.
We coasted over inlets, waterways, and tiny islands thick with foliage;
The water transformed into grays and navy blue.

The wheels touched down as the last hint of light began to vanish.

Night.

(If only pictures could fully capture the experience . . . )
